Schönbrunn Group × Layla Vladi:
Empress Elisabeth is as fascinating today as she was in the past.
has ventured a modern interpretation with the Schönbrunn Group to capture the #AuraofSisi through art. The artworks are on display on Times Square from today.
Layla feels connected to Elisabeth in more than one way:
"Empress Elisabeth of Austria saw herself in Titania, the fairy queen from A Midsummer Night’s Dream, a regal figure who, despite her grace and delicacy, stood firm against powerful forces. Titania’s refusal to submit to Oberon’s demands, even in the face of his relentless efforts, mirrors Sisi’s own resilience to the constraints imposed upon her. Both women carved out space for themselves beyond the roles they were given. Sisi wrote her own poetry, drawing inspiration from the works of Heinrich Heine, using language as a tool to express herself freely.
I connect with that instinct to shape something that is entirely my own. My art exists in that same space of metamorphosis. Like a butterfly, I am constantly evolving artistically, capturing what I struggle to articulate in words. I know what it’s like to be constantly wary of how people may perceive me the wrong way or make assumptions about me purely on a surface level. But through art, there is no right or wrong answer, no need for explanation. It is the one place where I can exist freely, a safe space where I can be completely transparent, honest, and unrestrained. Art, like poetry, music, and literature, is its own language, one that transcends language barriers, allowing me to communicate with people in ways that words alone cannot."
